FML. I will have to move back to my parents’ place if I don’t get a job next month. Life is just so much fun sometimes
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:30 |

Brutal.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:30 |

Hang in there. Been laid off before, just have to keep knocking on doors and networking until something good happens.
This is technically “old” by now, I think.

Yes a contemporary classic and Laguna Seca always makes me happy. Thx
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:31 |

Damn, that’s no fun.

Bavarias are still way too cheap. And very pretty. Thx SM70.

Sorry to hear that. Good luck with the hunt for a better job.

And on the same day that E90M3 just got back to work after a lay off and living with his parents . . .
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:32 |

sucks but 100% normal life. Makes ya stronger.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:32 |

You’re welcome. Best of luck!

Classy, Oppo needs more brass era. But nobody likes that stuff here!? What is this?
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:34 |
|
Don’t forget to apply for unemployment asap, and keep an eye on your health insurance stuff. I was a dummy and paid for COBRA back then before getting a separate policy (this was before Obamacare, so things may be different now).
I’d say take a few days at least to figure things out and decompress/vent.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:34 |

Did you get severance? Unemployment?
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:36 |
|
sorry man, hang tight!
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:37 |

yep absolutely. These are on my summer project shortlist... which I will hopefully still get to. With lots of luck and some hard work.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:38 |

thanks, that’s solid advice. I’m still on my parents’ health ins. so I’m all set. I think I need to wait 5 days or something like that before filing for unemployment
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:39 |
|
yep both. But I don’t want to spend it all on rent hence the move if I don’t find something.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:39 |

best attitude ever! I’d hire you
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:39 |

Sorry to hear. On the brightside we are in the midst of the best job market in probably 12 years. So hopefully you’ll be gainfully employed again soon.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:40 |

Damn, that is rough. I guess at least you have a month to find a good job.
Here is my dream family wagon to cheer you up
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:40 |

Thanks Nibby! I’m coming around to these lately, especially the rear end; ridiculously nineties taillight strip.

aw thanks!

Yes and Boston is especially good, especially for high tech which is now on my resume. Thx. According to someone else you just exited the tunnel I’m driving into today, congrats :)

Thx! I do love fast audis. This thing is also outfitted in a hilarious way.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:45 |

Sorry to hear the news, but it happens sometimes. Most of the time it’s just random and nothing to do with you personally.
Feel bad about it for a while, and then move on. Here’s wishing you a better next gig!
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:45 |

yes, always a silver lining. Severance was generous, I think a soul searching solo road trip may be in order.

My Dad had a ‘95 S320 back then, in black. That was a street legal tank.

great pic!! And yeah it wasn’t performance based or even a decision that was made within our small branch of Samsung.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:47 |
|
An AMG of this generation would be the ultimate period piece.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 12:53 |

Sorry to hear this. Remember it was a business decision by Samsung, does not reflect on your value and skill.
Fwiw...hopefully it’s of help...my 02 cents is cut expenses ASSAP, as deep as you can; like move back with your folks sooner not later. That way, your reserves stay as large as possible as long as possible and give you the max flexibility and control of your life later, ‘cause things will happen that you do expect and ones you don’t (not necessarily adverse — maybe good ones too that require $$)
Best wishes...things happen because reasons, and something good is coming out of this, you just may not know yet what that is
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:00 |
|
I’m 100% with you. Having already paid for the next month’s rent I’m reluctant to just call it now and get a uhaul tomorrow. But yeah the $500 in bills for next month will be my last true expense if I don’t get a job in a few weeks.

![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:03 |

solution: imagine the maintenance bill.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:03 |

Maybe negotiate at least a partial refund if you leave early...? Just saying
Pulling for ya bro
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:07 |

My severance package is pretty nuts actually, I got very lucky with this job in many respects. I’m sure I could since my landlords are very small town and informal, but at this point my dignity AKA the possibility of not having to move back home is worth $1000. But not $1001 so it’ll be back to my childhood bedroom if I fail in April.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:08 |

Great, now I can’t even pee it’s so far back.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:12 |

I hope you find a new job soon! Good luck!
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:18 |

Thank you! So many beautiful cars too, especially the old Mercs. They come out once a year around here for German car day and that’s always exciting.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:18 |

Tazios advice is excellent. And I strongly believe that these experiences will end up leading you to a better place eventually.
Take a few days off to blow off some steam and relax, then take stock of what was good/bad about the last job, and what you want in your next job. It’ll help you focus the search a little bit.
And, then treat the search like it’s your job — because it is for now. But don’t forget to take a little time to smell the roses right now, too. You have some extra free time now, so don’t waste it all getting stressed out. Balance is key.
I’m 49 and have only been laid off once (10 months, during the financial crisis), but it’s a time that I actually look back fondly on.
Good luck, and don’t get down on yourself — this happens to virtually everyone these days, and it sounds like you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time anyways
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:19 |

Still easier to live with than a W220, esp if the wiring harness has been done!
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:20 |
|
Yeah I’ve been through some things that I never mention on Oppo and never will - this sucks but there is an obvious and straightforward solution (job searching...) so I’m remaining optimistic for now.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:21 |
|
W220s are W220s though... *swoon*
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:21 |

It can be excruciating, but you’ll find something else. Think positive, and I suspect you are thankful to at least have someone to help.

I’d rather:

That’s ok — I can understand. There’s always things to be learned from the last job, whether it’s something you would do differently, or just looking for red flags to identify bosses / companies you will hate working for.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:25 |

yes. because V12.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:29 |

yeah for sure. I’m looking forward to a blank slate at a new place.

It’s a 1913 Benz 82/200 hp with a body by D&E Snutsel Pere & Fils. It had a 21.5 litre 4-cylinder engine making it the fastest road car of its time.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:33 |

And apologies for not following instructions original. Here’s an old German car, sort of.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:42 |

I’ve been in this boat before, less than a year ago too. :(
Okay. So if you want to stand your ground and not move back into your parents’ place, get Unemployment fired up right now. Also start searching for ways to get your rent paid. Churches and your local township can usually lend a hand with that. Reduce all spending as much as you can. Get on SNAP if you can. Any little bit of extra money counts.
When I faced this, I had my township help twice and my parents’ church help once. Moving back in wasn’t an option because I would have rather been homeless than to face that abuse again.
Ultimately, you may have to move back in with your parents, though. Before you do that, make sure you can break your lease without consequences. Sometimes leaving a lease will get you more burned than just sticking it out.
Here’s are two German cars for the road!

Unemployment?
![]() 03/20/2017 at 13:46 |

That sucks. I was laid off before and found somethinf better, hopefully it goes the same for you.

Ha yup. 11/10 would DD V10 TT Audi wagon Rally for Dadmobile

You’re welcome! German car day sounds fun! Hopefully the have some yummy schnitzel with kraus sauce.
The early 50s Benz look so much more grand than cars today.
Here’s a burgandy 1952 220A Cabriolet to keep your spirits up!

Not really that old but here is my e39 and wishing you the best of luck on finding a new job.

imagine the size of the pistons!? Nuts. I wonder if I saw one of these when I was at the MB museum near Stuttgart and have forgotten.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 16:43 |
|
yep. I think I can apply in 5 days.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 16:44 |

Thanks, I really appreciate that. I got so lucky with this job though, IDK if I’ll manage to get something better but just as good would be nice.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 16:47 |

I still can’t believe there was a brief window of time where BMW and Audi would sell you a midsized car with a V10. I bet they’ll be highly sought after eventually.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 16:48 |
|
I love the massive slab of wood on the top of Merc dashes from this era. Soooo classy.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 16:49 |
|
Thank you! As a die hard BMW nerd I cannot complain. Looks like a “not black” interior too which is always cool to see on a BMW from this era.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 16:52 |
|
Yes, probably 10 years after the warranty has expired they will become popular again.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 17:06 |
|
I seriously doubt that anything made within the last 15 years will ever be restored. Too many computers. Kinda sad. Replacing the wiring harness on a Chevelle? Awful, but doable. An F12 Berlinetta? Uhhhhh yeah right
![]() 03/20/2017 at 17:09 |
|
I don’t know though. Cause the Mercedes classic thing is pretty cool. Others may do the same. And if repairing them is too hard and complicated then it may keep the price down in terms of becoming classics.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 17:09 |

Feel for you man! hope you got a severance check. I was unemployed for 3 months, damn near spent all my savings trying to have the same lifestyle as when I was working, So let that be a lesson. And there is no harm going back to your parents house, get some R&R, then get out and do your thing again..
![]() 03/20/2017 at 17:26 |
|
You might have seen one with similar engine. It uses the same engine as the famous Blitzen Benz. M-B’s museum should have one of those (the exact record car is gone).
![]() 03/20/2017 at 19:05 |
|
Most likely all from the same tree. We don’t get quality like this anymore....
![]() 03/20/2017 at 21:02 |
|
All good points, and the aftermarket could solve the problem too
![]() 03/20/2017 at 21:03 |
|
thanks! yeah I’m considering the whole parent’s house deal for the savings. I could camp out here for a few months, but that’d burn through everything I have.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 21:04 |
|
yeah there were a ton of replicas from this era! I went to the museum 6 years ago though so I can’t remember much more than that.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 21:38 |
|
Been laid off 3 times in my career - I can honestly say getting laid off at least once is a valuable experience. It’s a pain in the a$$ at the time, but working through it can be a good thing. Roll up those sleeves and start swinging.
![]() 03/20/2017 at 21:39 |

Yep it’s the high polished grey? Dull name for an interior but looks good, need to redo the front seats as they are fading a little bit.
